Take a walking tour around downtown Lincoln to check out the haunted sites
On Friday the 13th, a walking tour guided by Mark Pomajzl took place in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. The night started off at the Cornhusker Marriott, where "ghost" martinis were served. After mingling with other tour guests, the tour officially began, first with a few stories about the Cornhusker Hotel before heading out to walk the streets of Lincoln to uncover the haunted past still lingering amongst the buildings surrounding us.
As we made our way through town, Mark shared a bit of the history of each site we visited and the ghostly occurrences and supernatural events associated with each one. We learned about the tragic deaths associated with the Nebraska State Capitol building, the lingering ghosts of the people who built and lived in the Ferguson house, the disappearance of a once prominent Lincoln man, the ghosts who remain on the University of Nebraska campus, and much more. Combining the stories with facts provides a rich experience, which allows for a much greater understanding of the city around us.
Some of the stops included:
Nebraska State Capitol Building
Ferguson House
Atrium Building
11th and "N" Street
Temple Theater
Old Father Hall
At the end of the tour we stopped at Francie and Finch Bookshop where we were greeted with refreshments and the option to browse the bookshelves. The lights were dimmed to provide an ambiance which fit perfectly with the end of the tour.
The only ghost I saw was the "peep" garnish in my "ghost" martini, but who knows, maybe you could spot one and share your story with me.
I would recommend wearing reasonable shoes and bringing along a jacket just in case the weather changes or a ghost sends a chill down your spine.
The cost of the tour was $12 per person and tickets could be purchased on the Evenbrite website or by stopping by Francie and Finch Bookshop (in the old Telephone Building) at 301 S. 13th Street.
According to The Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel Facebook page, they are planning for another tour in the future. Contact them to get on the list!
