Roca Scary Farm 2019 Special Feature

Updated: Oct 8, 2019

On October 5, 2019, we were invited to check out the haunted attractions at Roca Scary Farm in Roca, Nebraska. Roca Scary Farm is the section of Roca Berry Farm that includes all of their nighttime haunted attractions. Roca Berry Farm started out as a small pumpkin and berry farm that has been in operation since 1980. Over time, the farm transformed into an attraction site with various games, pumpkin picking, thrills, and chills for all ages. They are currently the oldest and largest pumpkin patch located in Lancaster County. With three generations of families who work to create attractions, perform as scarers, sell food, and assist in activities that keep the farm going, Roca Berry Farm has held a tradition of family-based fun.

Every year, Roca Scary Farm features four separate terror-filled haunted attractions that are bent on striking fear into anyone who dares to enter. Although the names of the haunts do not change, the frightful journey through each twists and shifts like a werewolf changing shape during a full moon. Each year, more is added to each attraction and all are changed to produce a brand new set of scares. A new feature this year is the massive handmade guillotine situated near the end of the Haunted Hayride that will cause heads to literally roll. After making it all the way through dark and sinister country on a rickety, bumpy ride with ghastly figures lurking in complete darkness, you will witness a gruesome execution firsthand.

If you are looking to be horrified by oddities on the midway, the Sinister Circus will erase the beaming smile once spread across your face and morph your mouth into a horrendous scream. You can’t avoid the clowns; you may find them right behind you, sneaking quietly when you least expect it. Before you leave, stop by to find out what your future holds with Helga the Fortune Teller, but I can guarantee you will have more terror in store.

The Psycho Path features a new green face tunnel that will disorient even the most directionally sound victims. Try not to lose your way through the fog-filled room that will easily make you believe you may never find our way out. The spooky path will constantly keep you guessing what is real and what is only your imagination.

Greg, Kalob, and their team worked overtime to create incredibly realistic elements for the nighttime visitors. Before you even walk into the dark forest, you will be stunned as a large, looming dragon screams and spews fog, providing the first scare.

Haunted Manor is full of stunning detail that will make you wish you never stepped foot inside the door. Nothing is more frightening than feeling as if you may be the next victim to a morbidly murderous crime or be trapped inside a house haunted by some unspeakable evil. Don’t get too distracted by the ghastly dancing feet of people on morgue tables or the horrendously bulbous lady in bed because the amazing graphics throughout the manor will shock you into the next room. And may send you out the chicken exit!

We had a backstage pass for an up close and personal look at the behind the scenes of being a scarer. We were able to see how scarers get ready including their make-up application process and costume selection. They are able to transform into something beyond this world to produce unimaginable fright. Getting ready can take a considerable amount of time, but the end result is well worth the wait. We also had the chance to get our heads literally chopped off by the new guillotine!

We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Roca Scary Farm, especially Andy who reached out to us again this year. We would also like to thank Anna, Greg, Kalob, and Mike and all the staff who scared our pants off and helped to create an amazingly spooky atmosphere for us to experience. The staff are always incredibly accommodating. They take the time to answer our questions, walk us through attractions, and provide a much-needed smile amongst the creepy grins around every corner.
